A good way to get some culture and world experience is through travel! However, traveling can be both time consuming and expensive. To make the best of your vacation and not hurt your wallet too much, here is some advice.
Most people live and die by reserving the seat next to the window; however, you should consider one on the aisle. An aisle seat allows you to move about a bit easier, such as going to the restroom or getting items out of the overhead baggage compartment.
Consider your food allergies, if you have them, when you are traveling to foreign countries. Learn enough about the foreign language to understand if something may be dangerous for you. This way, you can easily explain your allergies to waitstaff or chefs in restaurants or–should something happen–medical professionals.
If you are traveling with a toddler, make sure they have something to occupy them. Try to bring along a few favorite toys. A new toy may keep their attention even more.
Get in a workout before boarding your flight. Longer flights can be hard on your body. Your legs and back can cramp up from sitting a long time. By having a speedy workout, or even stretching before your flight, you are reducing your chances of getting these cramps.
Check the carrier’s website that you are most interested in to make sure you are getting the best price. Travelocity and similar websites aren’t the only place to find deals on airfares.
Try keeping everything together. Don’t spend a lot of time scouring your home for everything you need for your trip. Get a bin and put everything for your travels inside of it. It’s even better if you can get one that fits under your bed or that can be tucked away somewhere else conveniently.
You may find yourself at an unsavory hotel at some point since not everyone is able to live in the lap of luxury. Bring a doorstop with you when staying in a hotel that makes you uneasy. You can wedge it in under the door to your room overnight (in addition to the lock and chain, of course). While it is easy to break a chain or lock, entering the room won’t be possible if you have the extra protection of a doorstop.
These tips will take the stress out of any vacation, regardless of how large or small your travel plans are. Don’t let your fear of traveling hold you back; with these tips you’ll be prepared for any situation.
